Who is Patricia Okoumou?

On July 4, 2018 I climbed the Statue of Liberty to protest the government's family separation policy and inhumane treatment of immigrants. After a 3 hour stand-off with police, I was arrested for disorderly conduct, trespassing, and interfering with government agency functions.

On November 26, 2018 I climbed the Eiffel Tower to pressure Emmanuel Macron to take a stand against the United States. I was arrested in France and beaten in police custody.

In February of 2019, I traveled to the southern border and staged two demonstrations. In El Paso, I  mobilized a group of people to attach Valentines for detained children to the fence of the Southwest Key detention center. I also climbed on the roof of a school operated by Juan Sanchez who at the time was the CEO of Southwest Key. I was again arrested, but Juan Sanchez resigned.

On March 19, 2019,  I escaped jail time; I was sentenced to 5 years probation and 200 hours of community service. but still experience discrimination for climbing the Statue of Liberty. I am not a criminal. My action inspired many people.

In June of 2019, I became pregnant through in-vitro fertilization.

On February 5, 2020 my activist son Mbemba Makouela Okoumou was born.

Mbemba is strong, healthy and growing. We consider each day an opportunity to speak out against injustice.
